The Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales is officially a Bread or Stones Campaign Congregation! As you may be aware for over 25 years Louisiana has ranked 49th in the nation for child well-being. One would think that with the federal and state aid available it would not be so. In an effort to alleviate poverty for children in our state, this campaign was formed by a grant. Throughout Louisiana, over 16 denominations are now working together - and are committed to raising that ranking, bringing together Catholic and Protestant churches to improve our children’s lives.
Our goal at St. Francis de Sales is to help to alleviate child poverty in our own area, specifically working with the staff and students at Legion Park Elementary. In just 3 short years, we have seen tremendous improvement in not only the morale of the school - but great leaps and bounds in their educational testing scores - which speaks volumes in breaking the cycle of poverty!
Please keep this campaign in prayer - and seek to ask God what part He would have you play in this important endeavor.
Jesus asks each of us: “Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone?” (Matthew 7:9) How are we answering Jesus’ question?
