The Bereavement Food Committee is a ministry of compassion and service offered by parish volunteers to minister to our parishioners and their families in the event of the death of a loved one. It is a greatly needed service which reaches out to others in our parish family, bringing comfort to them in their time of mourning.
In this ministry, teams of parishioners are formed with a leader and co-leader, who are responsible to contact the members of the group. Each member of the team prepares a dish, or buys sandwiches, fruit/vegetable trays, etc. as part of the meal to be sent to the family. Then one or two of the volunteers deliver the food to the family of the deceased for the gathering after the funeral. With the food, the sympathy of the parish is also expressed in a card sent from the bereavement committee on behalf of the parish.
This is a simple, but generous way in which we as the Body of Christ are present to the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ in their time of grief.
