LITURGICAL
Altar Servers—Boys and girls in 3rd grade and up who assist the Presider during weekend

Altar Society—Enhances the church environment and provides ongoing supportive services to the
worshipping community throughout the liturgical year.

Children’s Liturgy—Teach children grades kindergarten through 4th during the Liturgy of the
Word at the 11:00 AM mass.


Commentators—Makes introductions to, gives information to and welcomes the community at

Environment Committee—Coordinates the decorations and environment for the church during
various liturgical seasons.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist—Lay people, 18 years of age or older, who assist in
distributing the Eucharist at mass. Membership is by appointment. Other divisions of this ministry
include: Homebound Ministry, Hospital Ministry and Nursing Home Ministry. Call Judy at the

Music—Includes song leaders (cantors), organists, instrumentalists and choir members. The Choir
Leader is Leslie Van Osdale. You can call the Cathedral Office for more information. The choir
ministers at Mass and holds several concerts throughout the year. They are always looking for new
members!

Ushers—Greet worshippers, supervise seating and communion, pass collection baskets and

EDUCATION

CCD—Teachers, aides and volunteers are needed to provide the necessary educational instruction.

Confirmation—A two-year program for 10th and 11th grade students. Volunteers are needed to
provide the necessary education instruction.

RCIA—Provides a welcoming atmosphere in which any individual interested in becoming Catholic
may have their questions answered. Call Judy Levron at the Cathedral Office.

Cathedral School—The school is for Pre-K through 7th grade students. Principal Brenda Tanner
can be reached at the school on weekdays.

Vacation Bible School—A summer experience for young people 4 years to 6th graders who come
together to deepen their knowledge of Christ through song, word and artistic expression.


SERVICE
Alhambran— Catholic men whose primary function is to assist individuals with mental and physical
disabilities.

Anawim—Catholic women assisting the Vocation Director in promoting vocations to the priesthood
and religious life.

Bereavement Committee—Supports families who have recently lost loved ones.

Rectory Volunteers – Volunteers who help in folding of bulletins, answering the telephones or
attending the front desk. Call the Cathedral Office.

Catholic Daughters of America—Women dedicated to service through spiritual and charitable
works or mercy.

Catholic Voice for Justice— Contact Judy Melancon.

Knights of Columbus Council 1317— An organization of Catholic men involved in charitable
works within the community. They support activities in various areas of social ministry.

K.C. Ladies Auxiliary—Works in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus serving many of the
same charitable endeavors.

PRAYER
Rosaries for Nations–An organization that encourages praying the rosary for all people, leaders
of nations, and clergy. Meets at 8:00am on each Saturday prior to Mass.

St. Joseph Italian Society—Honors St. Joseph on March 19th and sponsors the St. Joseph food
altar. This group is open to anyone of Italian descent.

St. Vincent de Paul Society—Helps the needy in the parish regardless of religious belief with
medicine, food, and transportation. Meets Mondays at 2:00 p.m. in the parish center (every other
week).

Prayer Line —For prayer requests call 879-1032, 580-1575, 876-2286. Call Cathedral office to
sign up to become a member of the prayer line.

SOCIAL
Young at Heart—Social meeting of Senior Citizens who meet every second Monday at 11:00 a.m.
Meeting locations vary. Everyone is welcome.

Coffee & Donuts in the Courtyard— Usually held the second Sunday of every month after
morning masses. This is sponsored by the Pastoral Council Volunteers are welcome.

Easter Egg Hunt—Host the annual Easter egg hunt. It is held on Easter Sunday after the 11:00 am
Mass.

Woman of God Reading Group - Join us as we read selections that explore what it means to be a
Woman of God.

The ministries listed below are only a portion of the ministries offered at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales. In
keeping with the mission statement these ministries have been created to continue the mission of Christ to
proclaim the message of the good news and to lead the community of the faithful to salvation through
evangelization, sacred worship, ministering of the sacraments and faith building activities. Our ministries are
divided into:
Liturgical, Education, Service, Prayer, and Social ministries.
